      <Pgraph>In this workshop we will review the three steps in the assessment process as described in our presentation:</Pgraph>

          <ListItem level="1" levelPosition="1" numString="1.">Define learning outcomes for each program and course, </ListItem>
          <ListItem level="1" levelPosition="2" numString="2.">Measure how well these outcomes are being achieved using independent and objective means of assessment, and </ListItem>
          <ListItem level="1" levelPosition="3" numString="3.">Use the feedback from the assessment step to continually improve the effectiveness of programs.  </ListItem>

      </Pgraph>
      <Pgraph>We will then take as a case study a typical medical program and develop a rudimentary assessment plan that includes learning outcomes for the program and for selected courses in it, assessment tools for measuring student learning, and a feedback mechanism to make sure that the results of the assessment step are used to continually improve the program design.</Pgraph>
