610 medicine Humanmedizin 20110209 20110328 20110408 20110516 germ engl 1860-3572 28 2 GMS Zeitschrift für Medizinische Ausbildung GMS Z Med Ausbild 32 EinleitungMit dem Jahr 2011 startet die Zeitschrift der Gesellschaft für Medizinische Ausbildung – GMA e.V. in ihren 28. Jahrgang. Eine lange, erfolgreiche Geschichte, die mit dem ersten Heft der „Medizinische Ausbildung“ im Selbstverlag begann, über die „Medizinische Ausbildung – Supplement der Zeitschrift ‚Das Gesundheitswesen‘ “ beim Thieme-Verlag weiter lief und jüngst in der hauptsächlich online verfügbaren „GMS Zeitschrift für Medizinische Ausbildung“ aufgegangen ist.Die erste Zeitschrift erschien sechs Jahre nach Gründung der Gesellschaft, im Mai 1984, unter der Schriftleitung des damaligen Vorsitzenden, Prof. Dr. Dietrich Habeck aus Münster. Das Ziel war, „Impulse für die notwendige wissenschaftliche Auseinandersetzung mit Fragestellungen und Problemen unserer ärztlichen Aus-, Weiter- und Fortbildung [zu geben] und zugleich Anregungen zur Entwicklung und Anwendung von neuen Konzepten und Methoden der Ausbildung“ zu vermitteln , zum ersten Mal realisiert in einem deutschsprachigen Publikationsorgan. Der Überblick über die Artikel der Erstausgabe könnte auch heute noch aktuell sein – Problemorientiertes Lernen, Simulationspatienten, Prüfungen, praktische Ausbildung. Das erste Titelbild der Zeitschrift zeigt einen Holzschnitt, auf dem die Anatomievorlesung von Mondino di Luzzi Ende des 13. Jahrhunderts abgebildet ist – ebenso eine Sternstunde der Medizinischen Ausbildung, denn Mundinus war im 13. Jahrhundert in Bologna einer der Ersten, der die Anatomie mit der Zergliederung einer Leiche lehren durfte und damit die Grundlage für die „Praktische Anatomie“ und die Präparation legte.Henry Walton, damaliger Präsident der AMEE (Association for Medical Education in Europe) und Präsident der WFME (World Federation of Medical Education), und auch lange Mitglied des Editorial Board der „Medizinischen Ausbildung“, sollte zur ersten Ausgabe ein Grußwort schreiben. Dieses traf aber zu spät ein und wurde so erst im 2. Jahrgang, dem ersten Heft 1985, abgedruckt. Umso netter und authentischer ist daher Walton’s Brief, der dann kurzfristig seinen Weg in die Erstausgabe fand. In der Folge wurde auch regelmäßig in „Medical Education“ eine Zusammenfassung der Medizinischen Ausbildung berichtet.„ ‚Medizinische Ausbildung‘ – das Organ der Gesellschaft für Medizinische Ausbildung im neuen Gewand: Kleider machen Leute?“, schrieb der zweite Schriftleiter, Prof. Dr. Florian Eitel, im Editorial des 15. Jahrgangs . Im Zuge der Professionalisierung wurde die Zeitschrift ab dem Jahre 1998 unter die Ägide der Zeitschrift „Das Gesundheitswesen“ gestellt, und als deren Supplement vom Thieme Verlag gedruckt. Das damalige mittelbare Ziel, die Zitierung in Medline, konnte damals leider nicht realisiert werden, da Anhänge und Supplemente nicht automatisch mit aufgenommen wurden. Zum 22. Jahrgang zog die Zeitschrift Medizinische Ausbildung ein zweites Mal um, zu German Medical Science (GMS), welches als Verlagsgesellschaft und Online-Plattform unter der Zusammenarbeit von AWMF, DIMDI und ZBMed gegründet wurde. Die Schriftleitung blieb traditionell mit dem Amt des Vorsitzenden der Gesellschaft verknüpft – und wechselte somit zu Prof. Dr. Eckhart Hahn. Der große Vorteil des neuen Verlags war die Möglichkeit, alle Artikel im Internet zu publizieren, im Volltext und allgemein zugänglich (Open Access) . Diese Umstellung war zeitgemäß, ließ aber die früheren Jahrgänge mit der Zeit in Vergessenheit geraten, da diese nicht rückwirkend auf das neue Medium umgestellt wurden. Aus diesem Anlass widmete sich die Schriftführung der GMA, unter der Federführung von Dr. Thomas Shiozawa, dem Projekt, die ersten 21 Jahrgänge der Zeitschrift digital aufzubereiten. Seit Dezember 2010 sind nun alle Jahrgänge der alten Zeitschriften auf der Homepage der GMA zugänglich. Alle Artikel liegen als PDF vor und sind nach Jahrgängen und Ausgaben geordnet. Die Dokumente sind als Volltext eingescannt, das heißt Sie können auch in jedem Dokument nach Stichworten suchen.Ganz aktuell hat die neue GMS Zeitschrift für Medizinische Ausbildung in den letzten Tagen den nächsten Quantensprung vorgenommen – sie ist seit 24. März 2011 in Medline/Pubmed angenommen! Das wichtigste Ziel für die Sicherung der Zukunft unseres Publikationsorgans ist somit erreicht, und mag unsere Autoren nun weiter beflügeln, hochwertige Artikel einzureichen. Die Registrierung bei Thompson/Reuters beim ISI (Institute for Scientific Information) ist dabei eingeschlossen, so dass die Zeitschrift in absehbarer Zeit auch einen Impact Factor erhalten wird.Unser herzlicher Dank zu diesem Projekt gilt vor allem Herrn Markus Dietzel, der die mühevolle Arbeit des Scannens übernommen hat. Introduction2011 sees the periodical of the Society for Medical Education (GMA) in its 28th year, a long and successful story which goes back to the self-publication of the first issue of Medizinische Ausbildung (Medical Education), followed by “Medical Education - supplement to the periodical ‘Das Gesundheitswesen’” with Thieme Publishers. And most recently in its online incarnation “GMS Periodical for Medical Education”.The first periodical appeared six years after the foundation of the society in May 1984, back then under the editorship of Prof Dietrich Habeck from Münster. The aim was to set “impulses for the necessary scientific engagement with questions and problems of medical training, professional development and continuing education while at the same time offering ideas for the development and application of new concepts and methods in teaching” , for the first time in a German-language publication. The topics of the first edition appear as current today as they were then - problem oriented learning, simulated patients, examinations, practical training. The cover graphic of the periodical consists of a woodcut showing an anatomy lecture by Mondino di Luzzi in the 13th century - itself a key moment in medical education as Mundinus in 13th century Bologna was one of the first people who had permission to teach anatomy by dissecting a dead body, thus laying the foundation for practical anatomy and preparation.Henry Walton, the then president of AMEE (Association for Medical Education in Europe) and president of WFME (World Federation of Medical Education) had been asked to write the foreword for the first publication. But it arrived too late and did not get printed until the year after, the first issue of 1985. Walton’s letter, which at short notice found its way into the first issue is all the nicer and more authentic for that. Subsequently “Medical Education” regularly contained summaries of Medical Education.“’Medical Education’ – the organ of the Society for Medical Education with a new look: is image important?" was a question posed by the second editor, Prof Florian Eitel, in his editorial in the 15th year of publication . As part of professionalisation the periodical was placed under the aegis of the periodical “Das Gesundheitswesen” from 1998 onwards and printed as a supplement to it by Thieme Publishers. Unfortunately the indirect goal at the time of being cited in Medline could not be achieved as appendices and supplements could not be included automatically.22 years old, Medical Education moved home for a second time, this time to German Medical Science (GMS), which had been founded jointly by the AWMF, DIMDI and ZBMed as a publisher and online platform. The post of editor traditionally remained linked with the position of head of the organisation and thus moved to Prof Eckhart Hahn. The great advantage of the new publishers was the opportunity to publish all articles online, in their entirety and with open access . This was a timely change but ultimately led to the previously published periodicals being forgotten as they were not retrospectively digitised and made available. This led the GMA to instigate, under the leadership of Dr Thomas Shiozawa, the digitisation of the first 21 years of publications. Since December 2010, all issues of the periodical have been available via the GMA homepage. All articles are available in PDF format and arranged by year and issue. As they have been scanned as text, this means you are also able to search these documents for keywords.Just recently the new GMS Periodical for Medical Education has taken a quantum leap forward - as of 24th March 2011 it has been admitted to Medline/Pubmed! The most important goal for securing the future of our publishing house has therefore been achieved and we hope it will inspire our authors even more to submit high-quality articles. Registration with Thompson/Reuters at the ISI (Institute for Scientific Information) is included in this, which means the periodical will gain an Impact Factor in the foreseeable future as well.Our sincere gratitude for this project goes especially to Mr Markus Dietzel who undertook the laborious task of scanning.
